Protests Sweep Greece Against Israeli Genocide in Gaza
Organized by the Greek branches of Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) and the Global March to Gaza, alongside the Palestinian community in Greece, protests erupted in over 100 locations. Major cities such as Athens, the port hubs of Piraeus, Patra, and Thessaloniki, as well as the islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Amorgos, Chios, Tinos, and Syros saw large turnouts.
Demonstrators, waving Palestinian flags and banners condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza, chanted powerful slogans including “Victory to the resistance," “Freedom to Palestine,” and “End genocide in Palestine.”
The protests come amid growing international outrage over Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in more than 61,400 deaths since October 2023. The offensive has devastated the territory, cutting off humanitarian aid for months and driving the enclave to the brink of famine.
In a significant legal development last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
